I'm from north Dublin and i know and have lots of friends from south Dublin but what is the story with meeting someone from the other side of the city for more than friendship its not like where a million miles away. why is it such a big deal are the cultural differences really that bad(important). Are northside southside dublin really that far apart? or is it a where better than you thing? Honestly whats the story with the whole deal?????

As a culchie living in Dublin for years, I have found that Dubliners never really explore the city. I met a guy from the northside once at a bus stop on the southside and he had to ask me directions how to get back to the northside!!! I am sure you have heard the saying 'If you want directions in Dublin, don't ask a dubliner'. You seem to just live between the city centre and your suburbs and are clueless about anywhere else in the city. The other thing is because public transport and traffic are so bad, I would not be bothered going out with someone on the other side of the city unless she was something special. I have tried but its just too much of a pain in the axx, that you only get to see them on weekends. With the new tram system going to the airport maybe the love that dare not speak its name (northside X southside) may blossom. just a few thoughts!

Is this just a Dublin thing or is it the same in major cities worldwide?

South side people in the mainstream dont bother to explore the northside.
the northside is mainly working class and southside is thought to be more posh....
But nowadays house prices are in some cases more expensive on the northside.
It a myth that south side is more posh and has more money...
most of the major companys like IFSC and the 2nd biggest park in europe are on the nothside...
I as a northsider have come up against some bias from southside people not all but some....
Dublin is my city and I travel around it all northside and southside...regardless....
