cancer on the planet...

DEAR EVERYONE,

MY FRIEND HAS JUST PUBLISHED THIS PIECE ON HIS WEBSITE...

MY SENTIMENTS EXACTLY...
WHAT DO REST OF YOU THINK?

HUGS TO ALL FROM SCORPIO WOMAN AND CATS.

How many times can a cake be sliced before it
collapses into crumbs ?

Our three million years has still not been enough to
enable us to think beyond ourselves. Great intellect
and imagination have not been of any benefit in saving
us from ourselves, because they've been applied
without wisdom. The mentality that everything is for
the taking - a resource, that nature and the planet
will always provide, with the stubborn and blind
refusal to believe that they are tired, and crushed
under the weight of our insatiable demands.
Think of everything you have used in your life, then
imagine it heaped into one pile, this pile will not
include all that you are still to use, and then
multiply it by hundreds of millions. It's easy to see
how we are breeding and consuming ourselves off the
the face of planet, the open plains have been overrun,
we have encroached and invaded everywhere, and have
finally reached the the limits of the world, and still
we continue to devour, to cannibalise, and turn it
into a slag heap.

The worst offenders of this species of consumers are
the educated, they need the latest in consumer
products, to display their status, and they need to be
replaced often, so they need to consume on the grand
scale. It is their show of consumer plumage, to dazzle
and impress. This scent of possessions is used to mark
their social territory, to impress and attract, like a
lion pissing to mark it's territory, only they piss
products to mark theirs.

We are an industrious species, unable to set
boundaries, unwilling to accept them, who have turned
the business of destruction into fine art, we see
products and ownership in everything, even the map of
our existence. What else can we observe in this
species of humans? Our tribal mentality continually
sees tribes pitted against each other, we take pride
in the tribal Empires of the past, which our species
has continually destroyed and remade, and we see them
as having provided us with a rich heritage. We have
analysed the interactions, the rise and fall of these
tribes, their wars and achievements, but only as they
relate to the human species, not their net effects on
the habitat, those non-returnable debits that they
have made from it.

This ascent of man, when you look at it, does not seem
to be much more than a continual chain of one culture
destroying another. And the achievements that follow,
those great peaks of civilization, were not benign but
were built on the subjugation and misery of others.

What if we are a weed species, with a genetic
disposition to creating predator societies that
invade, conquer and either assimilate or destroy other
cultures. What if we are not the best of the human
species to have survived ? What if through cunning and
aggression we wiped out a less aggressive relative to
secure our own path. Perhaps the less technological
cultures we have displaced, who were able to live in
their environments for vast periods of time could have
developed less destructive solutions for the survival
of the species, and, the planet.

The empires of the past tribes of men have yielded
their bones and stones, but nothing we have divined in
them can save the empire of man. If the chain reaction
of man is unstoppable, how long will it be until we
reach critical mass, and how will we know when we have
reached it ?

As we wake each morning we can know with certainty,
that the day will see us continue to expand the human
empire, the family plot will be further subdivided,
and we will continue to peel the skin off the face of
the earth to accommodate ourselves.

Each morning, schools and universities will fill with
students that they will educate in the arts of making
us want, manufacture, and consume more. Countless
creative minds will be turned to creating new
products, some to design them, others to manufacture,
others to convince us to buy, in continually more
sophisticated ways they analyse and categorise their
targets.

As if addicted to our own destruction, we continually
refine ways to make ourselves want more, when we
should want, and need, to live with less.

Nowhere do they teach how to consume or want less,
there are no executives trained in it, because there
is no profit in it, and the world, has no use for
people that will not make, or create a profit.

So, here we are, back at the original question, how
many times can a cake be sliced before it collapses
into crumbs ?

This is a subject that makes me mad, yes it is true that our leaders politically and business wise are not thinking of our dear planet but we cannot forget about each of us, we need to look at us and decide what we want as long as the majority of us only thinks of their pockets this poor world is doom.

When the world stops turning lawyers into politians, then we might have a chance.. Theres too many fools from greedy industries, getting into politics and making policies that turn the population into slaves, and by making it legal, it some how makes it justified. When nurses become prime ministers and presidents. When social workers, humanitarians, doctors, and anyone else that gives a real damn are put in charge, things will just continue the way they are. Keep the lawyers from moving into politics. Thats our only hope. Seems like every fool you see on TV that has a voice in politics was once a lawyer or involved in something else that equals sucking money from the population

Its a sad state of affairs, but i believe its too late now,
Al we can do now is enjoy the ride and consume and waste until we are dead,.

Personally i dont care about the next generation, thats their problem to tackle not mine, as long as my life is comfortable and happy, is all that counts

Ah yes, i think it has a lot to do with peoples attitudes towards the environment and conservation. In a lot of ways education has raised awareness with many issues of concern, more and more the new generations are taking on a greater environmentally friendly attitude. However our institutions and large corporations etc need to make more of an effort too...

It is common in history that these things are left until its too late, and often a cure (or a technological fix) is implemented when prevention should have been the first option.

I agree with the above posts, it is a bad attitude and an easy one to fall into,
I find it laughable that Australia worrying about greenhouses gases etc with their campaigns etc, but This country will make no difference to the global problem as we only contribute approx 2.5% to the worlds problems,,

Even if someone waved a magic wand and every car on the planet turned into a Hybrid, in 5 years time the Gases Emissions will equal what it is Today anyway, So whats the point of worrying about it,,? Nothing will change, unless the change happens Globally and in an extreme way, ie:We all live like its the Bronze age,,, and that will never happen

Australia only causes 2.5% of the problem that does not seem a lot but Australia is only one country out of hundreds so just do the math 100 x 2.5 = way to much.

I do not expect anything will change first because to many people on this world do not give a dam. If I follow your attitude since we cannot change the outcome might as well give up so tell me one thing in life what is the only thing we can be sure and we cannot change it is we will all die one day so why waste time today we will die anyway so why not give up now and end it right away.

And you say that you will leave it for the next generation the problem hey wake up the problem is already here just look around and listen to what is happening in the world there is more floods than ever temperatures are wacky everywhere just in my little part of the world I can see a big difference between the winters of when i was young and the ones we have now about half the snow we use to get the winters are a lot more warmer the heat in the summer is a lot more extreme. The ice caps are melting at a incredible rate and will probably overflow the earth in a not to near future. In the next 30 to 50 years most of us will still be alive and the problem will be 100 times worst so don't say leave it to the next generation you already have you feet right in the mess.
