Hi Scorpiowoman

In the past, tea was the drink to have. Ladies would gather round and have tea parties with cucumber sandwiches, scones with lashings of raspberry jam and cream, tarts of many flavours and cakes with ten inch icing.
Then coffee was discovered and slowly peoples palate changed. As different techniques of roasting the coffee bean and various coffee machine added more 'oomph' to the flavour by pressurizing steam through ground beans, people discovered coffee flavours that were tantalising, richer in flavour and lets face it........became more fashionable to buy!

People have come to love the various flavours that are offered over the counter, that's not to say that there aren't many flavours to choose in tea! It still is a matter of preference, depending on one's mood!
Coffee is so rich in flavour and as we see nowa days, people are willing to purchase it in a take away version!
We supposedly use it as a remedy for waking us up, for the hang over from the night before, we even drive with it to work and we use it to just keep us going during the day!

Personally I prefer a bucket of tea in the mornings! But like the rest of society when I'm out with friends, then I will order the largest Flat White, extra, extra strong and sprinkled with cardamon spice!

Katz

even till two or three decades back every small town in South India had these little shops selling freshly pounded coffee powder. ( Coffee is much more popular is South India than North where tea prevails) Though there were Big brands like Brooke bond selling packaged Coffee powder, these small stores were largely preferred locally and had names like Thakur coffee, Lotus coffee, Ganesh coffee etc. small bags of different types of coffee beans, chicory seeds, a small roasting machine and a small grinder is what they had. Some of them even sold home made pickles, condiments and sweets. Buying coffee powder was a very enjoyable experience. You had a choice of having a coffee powder that was freshly pound as well as choosing the right blend. First you would choose the type of beans you want and then tell the ratio of chicory powder to be mixed. Then the shop keeper would scoop up coffee and chicory beans with a small brass scoop in the right proportions and would put them in the roasting machine. smelling the aroma when the beans were being roasted and g rinded would be pure heaven. Then the grounded coffee would be packed in a small polythene bag and the coffee powder remained warm till you reached home. Now everything is gone. You walk into supermarkets and pick up brands of packaged coffee with no choice of having your preferred blend. Now there are only Moccas, Barista's and Javas. No Thakur's, Lotuses or Ganesh coffees with their heavenly aromas of fresh blends.
