So Scorps,
How soon during a face to face meeting with someone does the topic of 'financial security' arise in these difficult economic times, I wonder?

How many people would ask their date directly about job security and whether they had sufficient savings to cover regular expenses for at least a month?

Would you yourself ask whether someone was facing financial bankruptcy if they lost their job?

No.. I would Not ask these questions upon meeting someone for the first time and I certainly would not welcome such questions directed at myself..

If anyone upon just meeting you asks such personal questions I would be extremelly suspicious as to their real motives for wanting to meet and date..

Now that the overseas contingent of bankrupts is blocked and their input no longer relevant, I thought it was time to BUMP - or raise a dead post what that is called-???
Necro-something or other...

Four out of ten Australians would run out of savings after a month if they lost their jobs and higher income families won't necessarily last longer.

Dun & Bradstreet's Consumer Credit Expectations Survey for the September quarter found 39 per cent of respondents would only survive 30 days on their current savings.
It found many Australians are planning to cut back on spending in the quarter but 38 per cent will use credit cards to manage household expenses and pay bills they cannot otherwise afford.
The survey found three groups in particular were feeling the strain of the economic downturn - middle income households earning between $30,000 and $69,999 and two age brackets, the 18-34 and 35-49 year olds.

I was wondering how many people are finding they are attracting would-be partners who are bankrupt (financially as well as morally) these days and who neglect to divulge that teensy little detail?

Has anyone been 'caught out' lately?

I've had the sad experience of supporting people I know who have found their new partner hasn't been entirely honest and have suffered losses as a result. This seems to happen only after they have been well and truly hooked into a legal contract which binds them to their partners debts.

How to discern the scammers among the genuine 'possibles'?

Any hints from those who have learnt the hard way?

I have a friend who was caught up in an abusive relationship and married a bankrupt... Now separated, they are worried sick about losing their home, etc etc...
Yep shades of the 'Russian brides' scam - 3 years and lose the lot...

I guess that is why I am in favour of 'prenups' if anyone has any property they value and do not want to lose in 'property settlement' issues after a short 'live-in realtionship'
I'm no legal expert (Judge Judy classroom only, lol) but I've heard that 6 (six) months is sufficient to have 'property rights' after separation???

Does anyone know for sure what the minimum 'live-in' time is for a lawful, defacto, or any other type of 'marriage' relationship?

Any one with a 'friend' who is a 'legal eagle'?
