I not being anti-Muslim or anything, But in my opinion the whole wearing of the berka (the whole veil for the body) is quite disturbing and unnatural.

Maybe its because it am deaf and need to see the face to communicate. what do other members think about Muslim women allowed to walk around in our country dressed like this. personally it give me the creeps.

I saw this on a Islamic Site, posted by muslim women themselfes..

I rest my case..

Muslim women suffer because of Hijab although they wouldn’t admit it.

It is a religious stigma that tells the others everything about her beliefs without even talking to her and works like a declaration that the bearer has to be treated differently.

Hijab and Islamic dress produces an isolated and psychologically traumatized woman because it denies women their own feminine instincts of showing their hair and beauty.

In addition to the psychological damage, the Islamic dress is an unhealthy dress.

During the summer months, hijab and the rest of the Islamic dress are uncomfortable and can become embarrassingly smelly because of the excessive sweating.

Recently, there have been many reports about the high incidence of the bone disease (rickets) in Muslim women because of their lack of exposure to sunlight which is essential to produce vitamin D, the lack of which causes bone disease.

Correct me if i am wrong but wearing of the full berka/burqa is a personal choice for Muslim women. I am not against the Muslim clothing and the Hijab/head scarf.

Muslim women protest outside Dutch parliament against burqa ban.

We live in a free country and the government cannot tell us what to do with our religion," protest organizer Ayse Bayrak told The Associated Press. "We don't live in a dictatorship. We don't live under the Taliban, which oppresses women." said one protester

I read this Article last night about a women who walked around for a day dressed in the full burqa and how it felt. I found it a really good read, I have copied and pasted the link if anyone wants to read it . below is just a small part of how she felt.

Quote:
I hate being inside this hot tent and I will never believe that any woman would willingly decide that that was how she wanted to live, but neither do I think anyone has the right to insult women who dress like this.

Found this about Honour Killings..

Even after the girl is raped by her own relatives she must be killed to perserve The Honour..

In some areas, a Palestinian woman is required to have a male relative accompany her whenever she leaves the home.

Unfortunately, her male "guardian"--father, brother, uncle, or cousin--may be a sexual predator who rapes her.

Should she become pregnant, he will publicly condemn her for dishonoring the family after killing both her and their unborn child.

Last year, seventeen-year-old Afaf Younes was killed by her father, who had allegedly been sexually molesting her. Afaf had tried to escape his sexual abuse by running away, but she was caught and returned to her father. He then shot her in the name of honor.

A sixteen-year-old Palestinian girl became pregnant after being raped by her younger brother. Once her condition became known, her family encouraged her older brother to kill her to remove the blemish from their honor. Her brothers, the rapist and the murderer, were exonerated. The girl was blamed. "She made a mistake," said one of her male cousins. "She had to pay for it."
.
Even more horrifically, a four-year-old Palestinian girl, raped by a man in his mid-twenties, was left by her family to bleed to death. They did this because they felt her misfortune would sully their honor.

Women often accept their fate and expect to be executed, even in the case of incest and rape. "They have to kill us," exclaims Ritza, a middle-aged Palestinian woman, "to keep others from doing wrong. It is the law of our society." It is hard to grasp the logic.

Girls, feeling they are ruined by scandal, go submissively to the slaughter. Such is the power of culture that has conditioned Both Victim And Killer to accept their roles.

"He had no choice but to kill her," says a father , whose son killed his sixteen-year-old sister after she was raped. "He was tormented.

The community was persecuting him because of what his sister did.

Her death has helped to wash away his shame."

Hmm thats pretty Hardcore Scorpio-Surely these are isolated incidents-failing that I cannot envisage how womanhood survives in the Muslim world?.

I know from my son(and others) that muslim women are Equal and very Active in the extremeist factions in Basra(not unlike others) and demonstrate alongside their men-spitting on westerners and openly joyous when westerners are killed or injured-and no one forces them to do it!.

My personal belief is abhorent as their way of life may be to us-muslim women are as muslim as their men-and we tread a thin line comparing them to our way of life.

It is not the question is whether they survive or not it is the Treatment of females in the backward countries.

According to that site it is Not isolated case, it is normal occurrence for any female baby, child, girl, woman who does not behave..

I mean to rape a four year old and her parents just let her bleed to death..

What For...Their honour and what will others think..

It is Sacrifice your baby daughter becasue of what others might think or say..

I know in some of the backward villages in my own country such things happened, and why because people will talk..

So that is it, gossip comes before our children.. I don,t care how incorrect this sounds, I think the Uneducated, Ignorant loons must be made to see that this is just Not On..

Again I know I am living in dreams..

As for the so called civilised educated city folk there.. Read a few books like PRINCESS and see how they treat women even in their palaces..

Some countries already have shortage of women, reason.. Female Infanticide and Aborting of Female featuses..

My argument was Not Equality of Muslim women, but the way they are treted like some garbage once used and no longer needed they are disposed of..

As for female suicide bombers on that site it says females who are going to be killed anyway are given the choice to die with dignity..They are offered execution by family or go kill Israelis..

I just read this:
An excerpt from:
http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-//527503...d-forcing-sex/

An Islamic cleric from Melbourne has told followers it is permitted to force their wives to have sex with them and to hit them.’

‘Hamza told followers women must respond to their husbands whenever they ask for it.
"Even if her husband was to ask her for a sexual relationship and she is preparing the bread on the stove she must leave it and come and respond to her husband," he said.
He appeared to not understand what was wrong with a husband forcing himself onto his wife.
"Amazing, how can a person rape his wife?"
"In this country if the husband wants to sleep with his wife and she does not want to... it is known to be as rape."‘

It appears to me that Muslim leaders urge followers to adhere to Islamic Law rather than Australian Law (and the Constitution)...

There appears to be little concept of what is considered socially, morally, ethically and legally acceptable in attitudes and behaviour towards women in Australia...

(The topic is Muslim women, so I consider it is also relevant to those living here under Australian law...)

The Topic is Muslim Women, but really I wish I had worded it differently. or better still not posted the question about the wearing of the full Burqa as it seems to have got everyone back on the topic of how women are treated in these country's.

There does seem to be allot of forums discussing this in OZ. I tried
(Cleric preaches beating women and forcing sex)
into my search engine.

If you try this link you will see what i mean .
