Not sure where this belongs, but I see it as a religious issue. Some religions advocate arranged marriages between young girls and older men. Just read this excerpt:

A judge has refused to overturn a ruling that declared the arranged marriage of an eight-year-old girl to a 47-year-old man legal.

The Saudi Arabian judge, Sheikh Habib Habib, ruled that the girl's marriage to a friend of her father's was legal and binding.

Rights groups have been petitioning the government to enact laws that would protect children while the kingdom's top cleric has said that it is OK for girls as young as 10 to wed.

"Those who think she's too young are wrong and they are being unfair to her.

"We should know that Sharia law has not brought injustice to women."

So what do PP members think? Is it fair to women? Is it 'legal' rape /pedophilia /abuse?

what is right or wrong in that society is hinged upon whether we have gas to drive the car to work or not Kam.

Human rights??. Cmon Kam. Are you Joking. Human rights start and end at U.N. Conventions. Though its good to empathise with people of the world in a diplomatic c.o.c.k tail party. Rest of us commoners living in this world only have our ordinary and honest sensibilities to contemplate about Human rights

Yep the only ones we have are those we are strong enough to fight for. What chance does an eight year old have?

None if you ask me. Frankly speaking you and i cant change certain things Kam. May be in another time revulsion brings change. Till then Innocents suffer. And in the meanwhile what do we do? As u rightly observed, "Hope, cherish and protect those values and sensibilities we hold so dear".

Milady there are lot many worse things that are norms every where. the more we speak about them the more they proliferate. Being Indignant attracts attention and reinforces the spectacle.
